4 Things to Consider When Buying New Shoes

I’ve been trying to slim down my wardrobe to make a more cohesive wardrobe, so that I can have fewer options and less overwhelm every day. I’ve been doing the same thing with my shoes and it’s been making such a huge difference to my mornings! It’s nice only having things I really love in my wardrobe. If you’re looking to purchase new shoes, then follow these tips to ensure you get shoes you really love, that are comfortable, and versatile so you don’t have to have a cluttered wardrobe. Keep reading to learn more about my top 4 things to consider when buying new shoes.

1. The type of Shoes
There are a few types of shoes that I feel tend to be really versatile, but my favorite option is Avatar shoes. Due to their fabric and style, you can wear them with almost any outfit, from a business outfit right down to a lovely evening dress! Buying something that you can wear with a variety of different outfits will mean that you don’t need to own as many pairs of shoes, which is great for your budget and your wardrobe. I would suggest avoiding louder prints and going with something neutral that’s likely to suit a variety of outfits.

2. The Price Point
Shoes can get really expensive fast, but I think you do get what you pay for with shoes, and it’s something I keep in mind especially for my kids too as I want them to have comfortable feet while they’re growing and being so active. Instead of buying lower quality (cheaper) shoes I tend to hunt for my favorite and trusted brands when they’re on sale. These day businesses seem to find any excuse for a sale. Mother’s day, Black Friday, Christmas, the New Year… so I tend to wait until something is on sale to buy it and that way I can afford a higher quality product at a lower price point!
3. Are They Breathable
If you live somewhere warm, or you’re just naturally a sweaty person, then breathability of the shoes will be important. This becomes even more critical if you’re playing sports or being really active in your shoes. Having shoes that don’t properly allow your feet to air out can lead to problems such as fungi, or even problems with the shoes because they’re not getting the air they need to dry out. You can also buy some powders that help you deal with the odor aspect, but the best prevention is looking for shoes that use natural fibers and naturally let your feet breathe.

4. The Flexibility
Check how the shoes move when they’re on your feet. They should follow your foot’s natural bend pattern, which means they should bend well around the pad of your foot about ⅓ of the way down the length of the foot. If they’re stiff and don’t bend properly, it means they’ll be uncomfortable to wear for long periods or during vigorous activity.

Buying new shoes is an investment, especially if you go for a good quality pair of shoes. I hope these tips help you choose a pair that will be an asset to your wardrobe, work for a variety of outfits and situations, and be long lasting!
