How To Style Artificial Plants and Flowers in Your Home

Artificial plants and flowers are ideal for many reasons. First, faux florae are suitable for household members and guests who are allergic to pollen. Next, artificial plants are excellent for pets that like to chew as specific organic plants may be poisonous. Also, imitation flowers don’t need light to survive so you can use them to decorate dark rooms. With that in mind, here are five tips to help you style artificial flora and foliage in your home.

1. Pick the Right Container

If you’re going for wide arrangements, consider using containers with large openings. Wide vases can help you spread the flowers across an ample space. When done correctly, faux plant and floral arrangements may look professionally-made, even if it’s completely DIY.

A wide vase may not be ideal for all scenarios. For instance, if you want to add a touch of color to a dull-looking but tight area of the room, opt to use a skinny yet tall vase. Remember, if you go this route, then make sure you buy and use the appropriate synthetic plants. Search for artificial flowers with long stems and integrate long, synthetic leaves to complete the look.

2. Shape the Flowers and Stems

Many artificial plant and flower variants don’t offer a “What You See is What You Get” look. Suppliers may pack different synthetic plants and flowers together. Still, it doesn’t mean you’re left with no options to design the bouquet.

Before you set the faux plants and flowers in a pot, vase, or container, spread the blossoms and branches apart. This step allows the bunch not to look cramped. Also, make sure to remember to remove the manufacturer stickers and tags present.

Experiment with different looks while spreading the stems, leaves, and blossoms apart. Different styles can help change the scheme of a room like your kitchen or living space. Aim for a natural effect while using imitation plants and flowers.

3. Cut Appropriately

Upon receiving your batch of artificial plants and flowers, don’t just cut away the stems and leaves like there’s no tomorrow. Start by placing the stem upside down while putting it right next to your container to serve as a height guide. Next, use wire cutters to trim the stem. Remember, specific artificial plants may have wire cores. Using ordinary craft scissors may prove to be a challenging task when cutting stems with wire cores.

Also, take note that it’s best to make the flowers and plants look as natural as possible. Don’t cut the leaves and stems uniformly. Try to make the trimmings as imperfect yet as beautiful as possible.

If you’re not a fan of cutting, you can also try bending the stems. However, bent stems may look unsightly as it may bring clutter to the aesthetics. Make sure to hide the curved stems in your preferred container to keep the naturally-pleasing appearance of the floral bunch.

4. Add a Point of Focus

After establishing your base and cutting the stems, it’s time to set the plants and flowers. Start by asymmetrically placing the synthetic florae around your container. Putting the plants and flowers in varying heights can help you achieve a more natural look.

Trim more of the stems if needed. You can also bend and wrap the stems around other flowers to hold the pieces in place. After filling the outer areas of your container with plants and flowers, place a centerpiece to complete the look. This piece will help draw the eyes of onlookers to the arrangement.

For example, if you used a white and green theme for your bouquet, consider adding one red, pink, or purple flower at the center. This contrasting colors will help catch the attention of guests, and perhaps give you a compliment or two.

5. Fill in the Gaps

The sight of gaps in a floral arrangement may look unappealing. You can fill these openings with wispy or playful pieces. Small leaves and flowers of similar hues to other florae in the bouquet will help bring a positive impact to the entire look. These small components also help add expression and movement to the arrangement.

Don’t forget to rearrange the surrounding furniture (if necessary) to match the artificial plants and flowers. Also, if you want to place synthetic florae on your walls in a budget, you can opt for a DIY wooden wall sconce. Last, remember to give your imitation plants and flowers a natural look. Make sure to clean the arrangement often to help maintain its beautiful appearance.
