5 Tips for Making Your Move Easier

Making a move is never an easy process. There are so many things to think about and organize- it can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to feel that way.

With just a bit of planning and preparation, you can make the move go as smoothly as possible. Maybe even smoother than it has ever gone before. Here are five tips to help you out:

1. Start planning ahead of time.

Give yourself plenty of time for packing, scheduling movers, and other necessary preparations before the big day arrives. Planning makes it easier to stay on track and ensures that you don’t miss any important details.

Planning to move all your items alone is almost impossible. Enlist the help of family and friends early on to see if you can have any extra hands on deck to help with your move.

2. Declutter before packing.

Get rid of anything you don’t need anymore to minimize the number of items that you have to transport. You can donate or sell unwanted possessions and even make some money in the process!

No need to wait for spring cleaning–moving is a perfect opportunity to get rid of the unwanted or unused. One less thing to box, and one less thing to ultimately un-box. You’ll thank me later.

3. Take advantage of storage units.

Investing in a storage unit can make your move much easier, as it allows you to store excess items and have them ready for pick up at your new home. This way, you don’t have to worry about hauling too many boxes on the moving truck and can take care of the remaining items when you have more time.

Many people move over the course of a few weeks while taking care of other things. If that’s you, you might want to consider using storage units as they can be your saving grace.

4. Label your boxes.

This will help you identify which box contains what so that you can easily find things to unpack at your new place without the hassle of searching through all the containers.

If you do decide to use a storage unit, this is also particularly helpful. Placing “kitchen” items with each other and “bathroom” labeled boxes in another corner will eventually make moving in that much easier and so much more organized.

5. Don’t forget to change your address.

One of the biggest things people tend to forget to do is to change their address. This is a pesky item on your to-do list as you never know how much mail you get until you need it all forwarded, but it is a must. You don’t want your bills going to the wrong place. One of the best times to take care of this is right before your move. That way, everything is in place when you get to your new home.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your move goes as smoothly as possible so that you can start settling into your new home without unnecessary stress and delays. Good luck!
