Sweeper and Dustpan

Jan Kochański set out to enhance the standard sweeper and dustpan – an object we use everyday that has aesthetic value that is none too pleasing, making a chore seem even more so.

Refined in both form and function, the sweeper is made of horsehair and beechwood as natural hair is far better for sweeping than its synthetic counterpart. The dustpan’s handle doubles as a funnel that’s thin enough to fit into the smallest of bins while the mould of the pan gives it a streamlined look and makes it comfortable to hold.

The project is a reflection on a dull object of everyday use. An object we often use but rarely pay attention to. I wanted to create an object which, thanks to its aesthetic and functional quality, would slightly enhance the quality of our lives and make everyday chores more pleasant.
