Saving Time and Money with AI in Healthcare

Healthcare’s new workforce is not driven by humans. Rather, artificial intelligence is taking the industry by storm, taking on tasks for healthcare professionals and doing it autonomously. Although less than 1% of enterprise software applications included agentic AI in 2024, by 2028, usage is expected to surge to 33%.

A healthcare AI agent is a system that can autonomously perform tasks for someone else, exceeding the capabilities of a normal chatbot and improving after each performance. Because of their advanced abilities, AI agents in healthcare are now emerging in both front and back office operations. This is especially prevalent in workflows such as insurance capture and verification, prior authorization, inbound referral processing and prescription refill processing.

This has allowed experts to identify a top area of AI opportunity, which is addressing administrative burden through automation. By transforming the backend work within the healthcare industry, AI agents are now driving both time and cost savings, increasing the quality of life for many doctors and practitioners.

Patients also benefit from these systems, as they are able to receive faster diagnoses, customized treatment, and more face-to-face time with real, human care staff. With AI working on the smaller tasks, doctors now have more time to focus on the bigger picture.
