Plum Stool

Alvaro Uribe wanted the aerodynamic Plum Stool to mimic the efficient way forms grow and evolve in the natural world. The design philosophy is apparent in the way the carbon, feather-light seat combines structure and material into one flowing contour.

With the rapid advance of modern manufacturing technologies the design can be approached from a sculptural point of view without being constricted by geometric rules, hence the stool’s clean, rounded lines devoid of any joining or harsh edges. Because of this freedom, the designer was able to make sure the chair was as lightweight as possible, giving credence to the name ‘Plum’ which is derived from the Spanish word ‘Pluma’ meaning feather.
