Tips for Designing an At Home Counseling Office

Are you thinking of going to school to get your master in counseling? Some of you are also probably considering going back to college online to get your degree. Getting your online masters in counseling is an important first step.  If you are getting your degree, you may want to work from home when you get done with school.  This will require you to have an office space that is both productive and fashionable as well.  Today, we are going to learn some tips that will help those work at home counselors create a fabulous workspace in the comfort of their own home.

Choose a Quiet Location

If you are thinking of working from home at the office after you have completed an online counseling degree, then you will need a space to bring clients.  While some of your clients will probably be online, others will need to come to your home office.  This will require you to have a quiet location that will allow you to focus on helping others with their issues.  Choose a room in your apartment or home that is away from the rest of the house.  Make sure that if there are any family members living with you, that they respect your working space and avoid it during business hours.

Pick Comfortable Seating

When buying furniture for your home office, make sure that you pick comfortable seating.  A nice leather sofa or a plush cotton filled chair will help your clients relax during their session.  This is very important to your business and having a comfortable place to sit can actually help clients open up to you.  Also, you will need to pick a comfortable office chair for yourself, because you are going to be spending much of your day sitting down.  But remember, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg and there are some really nice sofas and chairs out there for a fraction of the price.  So, make sure that you shop around and find those good deals.

Use Plants as Focal Points

If your office space is a bit dull, why not use some plants to distract your clients?  Plants make great focal points and they can also bring a bit of the outside in.  Being in nature is a rejuvenating experience so bringing it to your office can help your clients feel better.  Plants also help clean the air inside of your office space which is always an added bonus.  But remember, if you have pets and small children in the home, choose non-toxic plants to protect their safety.

These design tips will allow you to make a comfortable and professional office space.  Your clients will not only be relaxed but also impressed with your choice of décor.  So, after you have finished with your masters in counseling online, you just might want to get started building your workspace.  Working from home will save you a lot of money and you will not have to worry about commuting or getting out in the rat race.
