How to Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Whether you’re hoping to sell your home in the near future or are simply looking to improve its curb appeal, you need to start with a critical eye. Take a walk to the curb and try to see the property for the first time. If you are struggling to look at it objectively, ask a friend to give their honest opinion about what they think of the home aesthetically. Does it look well maintained or could it do with some TLC? Assuming that there are improvements to be made, it’s worth remembering that you should also take the home’s architectural style into consideration in your plans. Here are some ideas to help you improve your home’s curb appeal.

Make sure your house name and/or number are visible

If your house name or number have worn away or fallen off, then it’s time to replace them. The font should be in keeping with the home’s style and easy to read. It seems a simple change, but it can make a big difference to visitors.

Upgrade your mailbox

Your mailbox should be attractive and if possible it should complement your style of home. In addition, it should also be secure. If the mailbox is broken, at the front of the yard, or is easily opened it could leave you open to identity thieves

Spruce up the pathway

The pathway from the curb to your front door should be safe, i.e. with no missing, uneven, or loose paving or bricks. If it is overgrown with weeds or shadowed by trees it may be unwelcoming to visitors. If visitors have to walk across the lawn to reach your home, consider investing in a pathway to welcome people to your home.

Make a feature of your front door

For most people the main focal point of their home is the front door. It can make a huge difference to the overall look of your home if the door stands out and complements the rest of the home in terms of style and color. The door and any porch should be freshly painted, and you might want to consider adding plants, porch seating, or lights to the entrance. It not only makes it appear more homely, but also provides you with an extra entertaining space.

Invest in landscaping

An attractive front yard is well kept and tidy. If yours is overgrown and wild you may want to invest some time in weeding and pruning. Depending on how much work is required, you might want to hire professional tree pruners Longwood, who can get your yard looking as good as new in no time at all.

Repaint the exterior of the property

If you are repainting the door and/or porch, it stands to reason that repainting the whole of the exterior of the property would be even more impactful in improving the home’s curb appeal. If the existing paint is faded, cracked, or peeling, a fresh coat could make all the difference, especially if you update the color of your home at the same time.
