While 2020 has been a bit of a bad year for humans, it has been an excellent year for the humble home office. Before the pandemic and lockdowns, home offices were considered a bit of a luxury for most people, but with all that’s happened this year everyone and their dog now has turned their spare room or kitchen into an impromptu home office.
As hundreds of thousands of people have set up their home office for the first time this year, there has been a massive spike in interest for home office décor as people look to personalise their new office space and optimise it for productivity.
So, now that the home office market has matured, we can start to look at style trends for home offices and predict what trends will take home offices by storm in 2021. Let’s get into it!
Taking Design Notes From Offices
Right off the bat we have a simple trend, taking inspiration from offices, it makes sense, most people have spent a lot of their life in offices. So when it comes to a home office lot’s of people are taking design notes from their office experience, so white walls, carpeted floors, vertical blinds and wooden desks are going to be seen a lot across home offices.
Powering Up With Productive Plants
The next big trend to look out for in home offices is Biophilia, which is the design philosophy of bringing plants into your home. The reason people are doing this in their home offices is because having plants in a room can make you more focused and productive as well as looking nice. So, in 2021 you’ll be seeing lots of foliage on desks and shelves in home offices across the nation.
Maxing Out On Minimalism
Whilst we were all figuring out how to set up our home offices at the start of lockdown lots of us discovered that it was at times hard to stay focused with our general home clutter around us. So, in order to stay focused, people flocked to minimalism, the design philosophy of having only what you need. So offices with just a desk, PC and a chair should be a trend to notice in 2021.
Making Décor Your Hypeman
This trend is somewhat of a throwback, we all remember the motivational posters of the late 90s and early 00s which were littered in offices to raise morale. These are making a comeback, posters and art work designed to motivate you whilst working. In a year like this, we may all need some motivation to carry forwards. So for 2021, get your motivational art out in the office.
Adding In A Breakroom
Sitting at a desk, staring at a screen all day isn’t a productive way to work, in an IRL workplace, you’ll have breaks from your desk throughout the day to reinvigorate yourself and give your eyes a break. Your home office should be no different, you need a space to have a break from your desk, without going back into the rest of your home. So adding in a small sofa in the corner with a kettle to make coffee or tea and have a quick break is an essential.
So there we have it, five of the biggest trends for home office styles that we’ll be seeing a lot in 2021. Did we miss anything from our list? Or do you have some home office style tips you’d like to share with us? Let us know down in the comments!
