There are few things we look forward to more in the year than a holiday- it’s a fantastic break away from our lives. It’s a chance to see somewhere new, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to get some quality time together as a family and bond. However – that doesn’t mean they aren’t still tiring experiences if you have kids. As much as they’re amazing, they’re also tiring balls of energy who it can be hard to keep entertained! But never fear – here, we’ve put together 5 top ideas to help you make sure they are kept entertained all holiday long (and one idea to give you a break too).
- Invest in some pool toys
Even when you get them in the pool, some kids still need a lot of entertainment – when all you want to do is lay back and read your book! Obviously you always have to keep a weather eye on kids anywhere near water, but deploying some pool toys is a great way to make sure they can essentially keep themselves amused while you do so, instead of you having to invent games for them. For example, every kid loves to play with inflatables at the pool, but with something personalised like Floatie Kings custom-made inflatables the fun is ramped up to eleven – plus, it would be so much harder to accidentally lose your inflatables if you know they’re unique. So this idea has two great aspects: it effectively gives the kids something to do, and it helps you keep track of your possessions!
- Learn some beach games
Once even sandcastles start losing their appeal, it can be difficult to know what to do on the beach. So make sure you’re prepared before you go with a few beach games in mind, or even bring some equipment – such as a beach ball or a quick cricket set (if you can fit it in your suitcase). Additionally, hopefully this will tired the kids out in time for a good night’s sleep!
- Find a local kids club
It’s your holiday too, and sometimes you may just want a full on break from the kids no matter how much you love them. Luckily, many resorts offer kids clubs where you can drop them for a day, so you can rest easy knowing that they will be well entertained and looked after while you are free to enjoy some more grown up activities like taking in the scenery, enjoying a drink with lunch, or even enjoying an activity like surfing without worrying how the kids are.
- Start a sandcastle competition
Even playing on the beach can get a little old from time to time – so why not spice it up a little by setting off an activity like a sandcastle competition. This will absorb the kids’ attention while also helping them to get their creative juices flowing – and you get to be the judge at the end. It’s a win-win situation!
- Create holiday bingo
To prevent situations where the kids are bored, it’s a great idea to create one game that’s ongoing throughout the holiday – for example holiday bingo. This could include stuff like ‘somebody gets sunburned’ or ‘we visit a local landmark,’ that they can tick off as they go. Other great ideas include scavenger hunts, which are great for older kids who can be trusted around the resort on their own – these could include tasks like finding three palm trees, or a pink pool noodle.
Keeping the kids entertained on holiday isn’t always easy – the time away and change of scenery can be enough for the adults, but kids often need a little more. But hopefully, at least one (or maybe even all!) of the ideas on this list will help you keep everyone happy on your getaway.
